Explore the power of forgiveness, both for yourself and others, and let go of regret and self-blame. Embrace the understanding that you did the best you could at the time and open yourself up to the valuable life lessons that came from those experiences.

When you reflect upon this reality, you might ponder about all of the things that may have taken place because of you. Many things could have should have or would have happened because of you. How many of those things were actually in your control more of your direct influence?

Let’s start off with something easy. List off 10 things that you know you haven't forgiven yourself for. There could be a wide range of things that might come to mind.

Imagine if you slowed down before the accident; what if you didn't take them to that event? What would life be like if you just asked out your crush? Why didn't you take the opportunity with the new job? If you didn't go there one day, then you might not have met this person who changed your life. Truly take some time to write these things down for yourself. Look carefully at how you wrote the words. What tense did you write them in? Who is to blame, and what choices did you have?

Carefully consider this, would you be the person you are today without that experience? How many doors closed or opened because of that one moment? How many other things do you appreciate in life right now because of that one moment?

Now write a list of 10 things that would not have happened without that moment. How did your reality and relationships change after the accident? Who did you meet because you went to the event? How many friendships or adventures did you go on because you didn't have that person in your life? What is your life like currently without that job? What kind of experiences did you have because you met this person?

It can be very easy to regret different things in life. What if all those things weren’t meant for you anyways? It simply was a door closing and a different one opening for your current reality. When you look back at the different decisions they were made at the time, those decisions might have been the best one that you could have made at that moment. On a daily basis, is your best good enough for you?

And when you look at how you interact with others is their best good enough for you. Consider how much of your reality is projected into others.

When you take a moment to go through that list of 10, 15, 20 plus things, be realistic with yourself on the things that you wish that you could forgive yourself for. And I know that you’ll get there. Certain things in life unfold very specifically for us to learn our life lessons. Sometimes we might consider that we chose this very exact life. Everything about it, from the relationships that come and go in our life, to the events and situations that we go through.

Reflect carefully on this, what are some tough life lessons that you needed to go through exactly as is in order for you to learn from them? If it was an easier one, would you have paid attention or learned anything?

When you recognize that all of the things that you haven't forgiven yourself for is a lesson, then you might start your journey of forgiveness for yourself. Remember, you did the best that you could at that moment.
